Calculate Your Soul Urge Number
Explore the inner motivations associated with the vowels in your full birth name, with the calculation shown step by step.
How the Soul Urge / Heart's Desire number is calculated
Soul Urge uses A, E, I, O, and U from the full birth name. Their Pythagorean values are 1, 5, 9, 6, and 3. Add the selected values and reduce the total, preserving 11, 22, or 33 if reached.
SoulNumber counts Y as a vowel only in a name part containing no A, E, I, O, or U. In Lynn, Y is counted; in Maya it is not. This is a consistent spelling rule, not a pronunciation analysis. Other traditions may treat Y differently.
Use A-Z letters or a consistent transliteration, including middle names. Accents are normalized; punctuation and spaces do not contribute. A name with no qualifying vowels has no result under this convention, so we ask you to check the spelling instead of assigning zero a meaning.
Example name: Ada Lovelace uses A, A, O, E, A, E = 1 + 1 + 6 + 5 + 1 + 5 = 19; 1 + 9 = 10; 1 + 0 = 1.

How is Soul Urge different from Expression?
Soul Urge is interpreted as an inner motivation or need, while Expression describes the use of abilities and outward style. A person can want quiet connection internally while presenting a more independent outward style. Neither number is a psychological diagnosis.
